7th century rock art relief from the Dazu World Heritage Site near Chongqing, Western China
The Wiltshire Heritage Museum is organising an outing from 9:30am on Tuesday, 22 March 2011 to the National Museum of Wales to see some of the ancient painted rock reliefs from the Dazu World Heritage Site in China. A selection of some of the reliefs will be on show at the National Museum of Wales from Wednesday, 26 January to Sunday, 3 April 2011.
“The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to see these little known but truly exceptional rock carvings from the 9th to the 13th century with their rich diversity of subject matter. Dazu is a real treasure house of Chinese art history and an important expression of the ideas of Buddhism, Daoism and Confucianism as well as a fascinating insight into Chinese daily life.”
