More Heritage Action views on metal detecting and artefact collecting

Our search for comparables to aid the judge in his consideration of the Priddy Circle Bulldozing case (here and here) has just received a boost…. A judge has been told that a man “hired workers who demolished the majority of a protected  ring fort on his land and used the materials to fill in a nearby pond.” The Judge said he needed time to reflect and adjourned the case until January 16 when sentence will presumably be passed.

The only thing is, it happened in Ireland not Somerset. On the other hand, if useful precedents can’t be found close at hand it’s perfectly normal for English judges to feel free to cast their eyes further afield. So the decision in Ireland will be interesting, to say the least!

A builder who demolished his house in a conservation area in Fulham is going to be worse off by about half a million pounds……
