New Stonehenge visitors’ centre to be a bit odd?

It seems that the new visitors’ centre will basically comprise two “pods”, a glass one and a timber one and these will house exhibition and museum spaces, a shop and a café – in other words all that’s needed, we presume. But linking them will be “an undulating canopy form designed to reflect the Salisbury Plain” – or “a roof” as some might think of it – but not a watertight one – it will be deliberately perforated.

“Denton Corker Marshall director Stephen Quinlan says, “It’s a visual device, it doesn’t protect you from the rain – if it’s raining when you visit Stonehenge you’re going to get wet anyway”.

It remains to be seen what visitors will say when it rains.
