The Leader of Shropshire Council has been found guilty of offending against the principles of Integrity, Honesty and Leadership set out in the Council’s Code of Conduct. Not to worry. Their Standards Sub-Committee has issued a statement:
“In accordance with the Council’s procedure for the resolution of findings of a failure to comply with the Code of Conduct, Members of the Sub-Committee were satisfied that the proposed apology and commitment of Councillor Barrow to undertake training represented a reasonable outcome without the need to hold a formal hearing.”

On the matter of Shropshire Council, and also thinking of Old Oswestry, the LA has a statutory obligation to provide public open space. An evalulation of public open space in Shropshire is currently under way. E.g. It would appear that in Much Wenlock it has been acknowledged by SC that we do not have enough. I wonder what the case for Oswestry’s open space provision might be. Old Oswestry, as your site has well demonstrated, is a place of important resort as well as being a magnificent and unique piece of our heritage. Just a thought.

A throwaway comment from a throwaway Council who have little regard to local democracy, honesty and integrity. Welcome to Dismal Shropshireland

A throwaway comment would be bad enough, but this is worse, a calculated, prepared statement claiming what most of us would get sacked for isn’t a serious matter in their neck of the woods!

The last comment; please can I ask if you are employed by Dismal Shropshireland?

In addition to what you have said, would you be prepared to send me that LA statement (georgenash@btinternet.com)?

Hi George, no not employed by them (not a happy thought!) By “prepared statement” I simply meant it was the Sub Committee’s formal decision.
