Because you need an Export Licence to send a Roman coin out of the country. This misdescription is a common method of smuggling. What advice does the PAS give on this?

As you know, the vast majority of detectorists seem to have supported Brexit (no prizes for guessing that would happen!). Which means we’ll be outside the EU, innit…. and the EU is examining the provisions governing the import of artefacts from outside the EU….. Write your own punchline.
Incidentally, I do hope they look at the issue of hundreds of EU citizens returning with items from Britain’s grabfests.
