In a letter to the Guardian this week 3 questionable claims have been reasserted by the Chief Executive of English Heritagethe Director General of the National Trust, and the Chief Executive of Historic England.

  1. The Stonehenge tunnel allows people to better explore – but the land in private ownership remains off limits to the public!
  2. The tunnel entrances are carefully positioned – but an adjacent cutting passes through a Beaker cemetery and remains of an early Bronze Age settlement within the World Heritage Site!
  3. Alternative options would cut a wide swathe through the site and be highly destructive – which is exactly what the 1km western cutting will do within the World Heritage Site!

Do they think the British public are fools that the wool can be so easily pulled over their eyes?
