Adverts like this for a big metal detecting rally next month

What on earth has incentivised people to shell out £90 plus petrol to attend such an event?

How many will be going?

How much is being earned by the organiser?

How much has the farmer been paid?

What has he been told?

Is the proper code of conduct being applied or an inferior one, or none?

How much will be found and what will happen to it?

How much knowledge will be lost?

Why won’t the exact location be revealed until a few days before the event?

Bearing in mind who might be losing out – the farmer and the whole of the public, you and me, (the only ones who own the finds) – shouldn’t exact details, including the accounts, be made public?
